Cooper Wasilewski a 4-sport star
Genia Cooper Wasilewski was one of the most accomplished female athletes ever to compete at Jim Thorpe, graduating in 2002 having earned 10 varsity letters in four sports.
Cooper Wasilewski received four varsity letters in basketball, where her deft hand at point guard and leadership as a captain helped guide the Lady Olympians to consecutive District 11 playoff appearances.Cooper Wasilewski continued to play point guard for Northampton Community College and led the team to the 2003 regular season championship with a 17-1 record.The success wasn't limited to the hardwood, as Cooper Wasilewski also earned three varsity letters in tennis. In 2002, she was nominated for the annual District 11 Tennis Scholar Athlete award. She was a three-time silver medalist in the Schuylkill League Tennis Tournament.As captain of the softball team, a sport in which she earned two varsity letters, Cooper Wasilewski led the Lady Olympians to the District 11 playoffs in 2002. During that season, Cooper Wasilewski recorded hits in 18 consecutive plate appearances.In her only year participating in cross country, Cooper Wasilewski was a named to the Schuylkill League Division III All Star team and also competed in the District 11 meet.Overall, she was captain of the basketball, softball and tennis teams; MVP of both the basketball and tennis teams and won the Coaches' Award in both sports. She also was the recepient of the Micky Hodor Award, given for coachability and fair play; the Babe Ruth Award for sportsmanship; and was awarded the Presidential Academic Fitness Award.Cooper Wasilewski was the recepient of more multiple awards than any other female athlete in Jim Thorpe history.The 26th Annual Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at the Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall on August 15, 2015.
