Hellertown man cited for public drunkenness

A Hellertown man has been cited by Tamaqua Police after he was found in a highly intoxicated condition on the Fourth of July.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Broad and Railroad streets for an intoxicated male. They found Stephen Mark Gingles, 51, of 457 Birch Road, Hellertown, sleeping on the sidewalk next to the water fountain.After repeated attempts, officers were able to wake him enough to sit up. His speech was slurred and the odor of alcohol wafted from his body. He told officers he had no idea where he was.Gingles was transported to the police station and placed in a cell. He was later released with a citation for public drunkenness.
