Thunderstorms could bring flash flooding

A couple of narrow swaths of potential flash flood producing thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, mainly along and north of interstate 78. This in response to excessive short duration rainfall over poor drainage areas including highways.

There is a chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday that may be accompanied by heavy rainfall. Localized flooding of Roadways and areas of poor drainage is possible.

The sun will finally come out Friday and it looks like we'll have a dry weekend.

The forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 1pm and 3pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: A chance of showers, mainly after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 11am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. West wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
