A motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday evening in Summit Hill after striking a deer.

The incident began when the biker was east bound on White Bear Drive just before 8 p.m.

As he was nearing the entrance to boat launch "B" of Mauch Chunk Lake a deer ran into his path. The Yamaha bike struck the deer.

The biker and bike both slid for a great distance before coming to rest, the bike off the right berm down a slight embankment.

The victim was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics and transported to an area trauma center.

Responding was the Diligent Fire Company with fire police maintaining traffic control at the scene, shutting down the roadway.

Summit Hill police, assisted by Jim Thorpe police are investigating the crash.
