Since late April, approximately 220 youths between the ages of 6 and 14 have been hard at work practicing for the Lehighton Booster Club's Annual Track and Field Meet.
Track and field director Cale Kresge said, "Today is our one and only meet that the kids work hard to compete in. We start in late April and finish with this meet in early June every year."Kresge said, "We have broken the kids up into four teams, Army, Navy, Oklahoma and Notre Dame."Kresge, the director of the track and field program for the Lehighton Booster Club for the second year, has been involved in the program for the past six years."Three years ago we had 90 kids sign up. For the past two years we have had over 200 kids in the program, with this year's total being 220. We have four divisions, Pee Wee for age 6 children, Junior for ages 7 and 8, Intermediate for ages 9 through 11, and Seniors for ages 12 through 14."Just some of the medal presentations that were observed were for the high jump in both the boys and girls senior division. In the boys senior division, first place was awarded to Dustin Klitsch, second place went to Evan Deem, and third place went to Gavin Sherer.In the girls senior division, Katie Aaron took the gold, with Lillian Brom getting the silver, and Nicole Serbel taking home the bronze.The Lehighton Booster Club organization has been serving the youth of Lehighton for the past 56 years.
