A woman was struck by a car Saturday evening while attempting to cross Route 209 in Franklin Township.

The incident occurred at 6 p.m. as the woman walking her Pit Bull terrier attempted to cross the roadway at the intersection with Bank Street.

She was struck by a south bound car with the driver stopping at the scene.

The victim was reported to have been unconscious, suffering head trauma.

She was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics then transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center, Cedar Crest, Allentown.

Franklin Township police, assisted by state police and Beltzville park rangers, are investigating the incident.
