Prothonotary's report
A total of 229 cases were started in May in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:Civil actions, 22; custody complaints, 18; district justice appeals, 2; divorce complaints, 19; complaints in ejectment, 3, license appeals, 5; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 18; complaints in partition, 3; protection from abuse petitions, 28; court rules, 1; judgments, 108; miscellaneous case, 1; and stipulation/waiver of liens, 1. The office staff also received and processed 203 applications for U.S. passports.Behrens' financial report shows $35,967.62 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $29,286.24; interest income $0.89; custody fees, $1,350; data fees, $5,205.49; PFA Surcharge, courts, $50; PFA surcharge, Sheriff; $75. The prothonotary also remitted $1,500 in remote access fees to the county.The prothonotary also remitted $3,939.43 the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $44.80 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996.
