Cressona Band

The Cressona Band will perform twice locally this month.The first concert will be held during the Zion's Church Lewistown Valley Old Fashioned Social, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday. There will also be a special performance by the Junior Cressona Band that evening.The band will also perform at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, 222 E. Broad St., Tamaqua at 7 p.m. Wednesday, sponsored by Dr. Richard Chwastiak and Shafer's Pharmacy.The performances will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear. The public is welcome to attend.SummerfestThe Tamaqua Historical Society will sponsor its Annual Summerfest celebration on Father's Day, June 21. Festivities will include three scenic train excursions, one headed south and two trips traveling north, through the cooperation of the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad. Advance tickets are available now at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce Office, 114 W. Broad St.The celebration begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m. and will be held in the West Broad Street downtown area.For more information, call 570-668-5722.Over 50 fitnessThe Tamaqua Salvation Army has partnered with Diakon to provide gentle fitness exercise classes for those age 50 and older. Sessions are held at 10:30 a.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St.Sessions begin with a casual 20 minutes of aerobic movement through walking, then incorporates a variety of fitness genres, including yoga and tai chi, which help to increase balance, flexibility, strength and energy. Most routines can be done standing or sitting based on the individual's comfort level.Registration is free and walk-ins are welcome.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include Holy Communion. Summer Sunday school will kick off this Sunday with an ice cream social at 10:15 a.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., newsletter deadline; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.Also on Sunday, a special picnic style lunch will be held in the chapel following the worship service.
