A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 7:10 a.m. on Sunday along Bowmans Road in Mahanoy Township.

State police at Frackville said Maria C. Whah, 34, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer westbound and negotiating a slight right curve when the vehicle went onto the shoulder where it struck a utility pole with the passenger side.The impact sheered the pole in half which was then suspended in the air above the westbound lane. After impact with the pole the vehicle continued another 12 feet down a rocky embankment coming to rest in a creek facing west.Whah was not injured but the Trailblazer sustained major front end damage, troopers said, and was towed from the scene.Whah showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest. Charges will be filed, troopers added.
