Carbon County voters had a little delay this morning in some precincts as snags with voter access cards caused headaches for poll workers.
Lisa Dart, director of elections, said around 8 a.m., that approximately 10 precincts across the county were affected by the voter access card problem. The cards showed an error when inserted into the electronic voting machines so they could not be used. Some precincts, such as Nesquehoning's West side, only had one functioning card when polls opened at 7 a.m., while others had no operational cards.Dart said that the company that makes the cards told her this morning that the chips in the cards were only good for 1,000 uses before they stop working. She said that apparently that was what was happening today. She said roving workers had been working to resolve the problem by replacing the voter access cards from the election bureau.Dart said that by 10 a.m., most precincts obtained new cards and were up and running. The Carbon County primary election has many key races throughout the county, including the commissioners' race, where nine people are vying for four spots on the November election ballots. The polls close at 8 p.m. Check tnonline.com throughout the evening for results as they become available.
