Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday in Schuylkill County, in which alcohol played a role.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at 10:58 a.m. at the intersection of routes 61 and 895, in West Brunswick Township.Troopers said Michael Kripas, 37, of Reading, was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima northbound in th left lane on 61 while Michale Scandiffio, 62, of Neponsit, New York, was driving a 2004 Toyota Sienna north also in the left lane due to construction.Scandiffio stopped for a red traffic signal when the front of Kripas' vehicle it the rear of the Sienna.Kripas and his passenger, Coleen Lowry, 33, of Shamokin, were both injured and taken to the West Reading Hospital. Scandiffio and two passengers, Denise Scandiffio, 58, and Sophia Janezic, 93, both of Neponsit, were not injured. Traffic was backed up in the area for several miles until the scene could be cleared, troopers said. Both vehicles had to be towed.Troopers said Kripas will be charged with driving under the influence.
