Morgan Mengle, a senior at Weatherly Area High School, has spent a lot of time at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia over the years.
Born with congenital heart defects, she has undergone four open heart surgeries, 13 cardiac catheterizations and spent months at a time at the facility, dealing with respiratory infections.Through it all, she has remained positive and thinks of the hospital and its staff as lifesavers. So, for her senior project, she decided to hold a benefit to raise funds for the hospital's cardiac unit and its Child Life, Education and Creative Arts Therapy programs. The event will be held today at the L and L Volunteer Fire Company, 390 S. Lehigh Gorge Drive in Weatherly.A full day of events is planned from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., including a Flying Aces Motorcycle Run, bake sale, live music, face painting, tricky trays, bean bag tournament and a slideshow on "Living With CHD: Morgan's Journey. She hopes to raise $10,000.For more information, call 570-401-2616 or visit the Facebook page Morgan's Miracle Heart.
