Police: Boy preparing to wash father's car struck, killed

DREXEL HILL, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a youth preparing to wash his father's car was accidentally struck and killed by the vehicle in suburban Philadelphia.

Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood told the Delaware County Daily Times (http://bit.ly/1IuvQLT ) that the 17-year-old victim and his 18-year-old brother were in back of the Drexel Hill house with buckets of water at about 8 p.m. Friday.

He said police don't know exactly what happened because of a language barrier, but either the driver didn't see the youth or the gas pedal stuck. Chitwood said the vehicle hit the boy and slammed him into the garage door. The Upper Darby High School junior was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The 50-year-old father was taken to a hospital with chest pains after what Chitwood called "a horrible, horrible accident."
