Carbon woman admits stealing from relatives

A Carbon County woman entered guilty pleas on Thursday in three pending cases, admitting she stole from her parents and grandmother.

Shaina L. Haas, 27, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of theft, access device fraud and defiant trespass.She was charged with the theft count for taking a check belonging to her mother, Denise Haas, on or about May 20, 2013, and cashing it for $199.25.The access device fraud case stems from a Nov. 22, 2013, incident when she took a credit card of her grandmother, Kathryn Kresge, and used it to obtain $188. The grandmother has since passed away.The defiant trespass count stems from a Nov. 29, 2014, incident in which she entered her parents' home and took two handguns belonging to her father, Douglas Haas.Haas, who is an inmate in the county prison, told Matika her actions were drug-related because she has an addiction to heroin. She said she is trying to get help for her addiction.On the theft charge Matika sentenced her to time served (119 days) to one day less 24 months in prison and paroled her. On the access device fraud she was placed on probation for three years, consecutive to the first count, and on the trespass charge one year probation, also consecutive to the other counts.She was also ordered to make total restitution of $549.25 to her father, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee, and render a total of 225 hours of community service.
