Tamaqua businesses now will have the opportunity to purchase cameras for their locations that can be linked wirelessly to the video surveillance hub at the Tamaqua police department.
The placement of additional cameras will provide a safer environment for businesses, residents, and visitors, say event organizers.The Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce will host a program at 8 a.m. on April 7 to provide Tamaqua businesses an update on the security camera system in downtown Tamaqua.The speaker will be Tamaqua Police Chief Rick Weaver, who will provide an update on the system.In addition, Weaver will provide information on how Tamaqua businesses can have their camera systems integrated into the borough's network to provide increased security for their businesses and customers.The borough's security camera system has proven to be a valuable tool for crime prevention and the crime-solving efforts of the police department, said event organizers.Initially installed almost five years ago, the extensive security system has been expanded several times, providing increasing safety throughout the town.The breakfast and program is being held in the community room of the ABC Tamaqua High Rise and is sponsored by the Law Office of Gary Marchalk and Alliance for Building Communities.Deadline for reservations is Friday. There is a nominal fee for attending the breakfast.
