Dear Editor,
I am sorry, but I really must address the letter from my friend Mr. Joseph L. Koperna (Times News, Saturday March 21, "The plain truth about the Resurrection."First, thank you, Joe, (if I may call you that) for your futile attempt to analyze the topic. However, I have a problem with six-dollar words since I was raised on a $1.98 vocabulary. You see, that is the problem with folks today. Christianity is so simple, people say, "There's got to be more to it than that, especially in our technological age of today." (Hey ... I used a six-dollar word!)Yes, the truth is that this country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, and Americans have tried to abide by the same. So, if a person does not like it, they are free to go to Iran, or any other free country! My friends tell me the problem with America is that we have failed to teach our children morality, responsibility and respect; three simple rules of life. So, to keep this letter brief, I am reminded of the many times as a police officer I would stop someone for speeding. The motorist would come up with all sorts of excuses that caused them to speed, but it was still a violation of the law, not written by me, rather enforcing one of the basic principles of society! In conclusion, Joe, if an atheist believes we have all evolved from gorillas, why are there still gorillas on earth?Sincerely,Richard M.
