Palmerton man gets prison for fleeing police

A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday on a fleeing police charge by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Barry Lee Ohl II, 37, of Palmerton, was sentenced to serve three to 18 months in prison on a charge of flight to avoid apprehension.Ohl was arrested following an incident on Oct. 1, 2014, when county sheriff deputies went to his then residence at 256 Avenue A., Palmerton, to serve a warrant issued by the county domestic relations office. When Ohl saw the sheriff's vehicle approaching his home, he fled on foot.Following a chase he was apprehended by the deputies. A charge of terroristic threats involving a juvenile was dropped in the case as part of a plea bargain.Nanovic also ordered Ohl to pay a fine of $500, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, and follow any recommendations for treatment.He was given credit for 15 days already spent in jail on the charge. The sentence runs concurrent with a jail term he is serving on the original domestic relations warrant.
