The malfunction of a domestic hot water heating system caused a scare Monday in Hometown.

Hometown and Ryan Township fire companies were summoned at 3:43 p.m. by Schuylkill Communications Center to Sherwood Avenue for a report of a structure fire.Police and firefighters responding to the scene found the cause to be a broken pipe related to the home's domestic hot water heating system.No injuries were reported.
