Domestic assault leads to charges

A domestic dispute in Coaldale on March 1 resulted in charges being filed against Kathy Ann Terry, 42, of 151 Third St., Coaldale.

Officers were dispatched at 9:30 p.m. for a domestic in progress. At the scene they were met by a man who was covered in blood from his head to his waist. His sweatshirt was torn and he reeked of alcohol. He told the officer Terry was inside the home and had weapons.The officer entered the home where Terry was walking toward him. Her face was covered in blood spatter and she was carrying a purse. She was told to drop the handbag and go back inside. She refused and the officer drew his stun gun.She then turned and began to run in the direction of a bedroom, attempting to slam the bedroom door in the officer's face. After a brief struggle, she was subdued and handcuffed, all the while cursing and threatening the officer.While being transported to the police station, Terry continued cursing and making threats, then began banging her head on the cruiser's windows and showed several signs of intoxication. An ambulance was called so she could be examined. She refused treatment.The man was transported to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale.Officers were able to piece together the chain of events.According to the man, he went to bed after drinking several beers. Terry was at a bar. He woke up when she came home and began yelling at him about his ex-wife. She then began punching him while he was still in the bed. At one point, she grabbed a glass candy dish and smashed it over his head, causing him to black out for a short period of time.When he came to, he saw blood everywhere and called 911. After his call, he said, the woman continued assaulting him, punching him in the face and body. That's when he ran outside to wait for police.When officers tried to speak to Terry, she said she felt faint and wanted to go to the hospital. She was transported to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus, where she continued to berate, scream at and curse police.She was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness.She was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua, who set bail at $25,000. She was able to post bail and was released.
