3 arrested in drug sting

A warrant has been issued for a Carbon County man who led police on a high-speed chase which stemmed from a controlled drug buy.

The incident resulted in the arrest of three other people involved in the controlled drug buy.The arranged drug buy involved officers from Mahoning Township and Jim Thorpe police, along with members of the Carbon County Drug Task Force. The target area was Bowmanstown.The following were arrested:Curtis Margle, of Lehighton, has been charged with possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, criminal conspiracy to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and criminal use of a communication device.Margle was in one of the fleeing vehicles and was later located at 134 Wilk Lane in Lehighton. He resisted arrest.Margle was in possession of 380 bags of heroin.He was arraigned on the charges and placed in the county prison in Nesquehoning after failing to post $100,000 bail.Cynthia Hippenstiel, of Ranshaw, (formerly of Lehighton), has been charged with possession with intent to deliver, criminal conspiracy to deliver, unlawful possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also charged with retail theft for an incident on March 6 at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township. She was in the second vehicle involved in the incident. She was arraigned and placed in the county prison after failing to post $26,000 bail.She was in possession of 70 bags of heroin.Robert Fox, of Quakertown, (formerly of Palmerton), has been charged with possession with intent to deliver, criminal conspiracy to deliver, unlawful possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the county prison after failing to post $10,000 bail.The heroin has a street value of $4,500.The incident began about noon on Sunday as officers attempted to stop two vehicles involved in the sale of narcotics.Wanted personState police at Lehighton said Jason Robert Wilk, 30, of Lehighton, is wanted on two felony counts of aggravated assault, one count of fleeing or attempting to elude police, misdemeanor count of recklessly endangering another person, driving while operating privilege is suspended-DUI related, exceeding maximum speed limits, reckless driving and careless driving.He was the driver of the second vehicle involved.Police attempted to stop a brown 1999 Buick Century sedan, traveling westbound on Route 895 near the East Penn Sporting Club in East Penn Township.Members of the task force attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle and take the suspects into custody relative to the controlled buy and delivery of a controlled substance which also involved the second vehicle.The suspect vehicle pulled off the north berm.As task force members attempted to conduct a felony traffic stop on the occupants of the vehicle, the driver, identified as Wilk, made a U-turn and fled the scene at a high rate of speed traveling eastbound on 895. Margle, police said, was a passenger in the vehicle.There was an active warrant for Wilk's arrest for a probation violation.A pursuit of the fleeing vehicle was then initiated. Task force officer Tyler Meek, of the Mahoning Township police, was traveling westbound on 895 toward the location of the initial stop to assist. Meek slowed his unmarked police vehicle on the double yellow line as the pursuit approached his location.Wilk was traveling at a high rate of speed and intentionally struck Meek's vehicle to escape arrest and apprehension causing damage to the driver side of Meek's vehicle.Wilk continued on with speeds reaching 80 mph, troopers said. The pursuit was terminated on 895 eastbound near the overpass to the turnpike after troopers lost sight of the Buick Century.Assisting in the investigation and pursuit were officers from the Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics Investigation, Beltzville Park Rangers, East Penn Township, Franklin Township, Lehighton, Lehigh Township and Palmerton.Wilk's vehicle has drivers' side damage, the driver side window is broken out and the mirror is hanging off or missing. The license plate number is JDT1385.Anyone with information concerning Wilk's whereabouts is asked to call troopers at 610-681-1850.
