Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton wants to expand its services off Airport Road in Hazle Township.
The hospital wants the zoning board to grant a special exception for operating an oncology and infusion clinic at 388 Airport Road, according to a notice published in the Standard-Speaker.If approved, the clinic would open a short distance from the hospital's Health & Wellness Center, which is on Moisey Drive near Airport Road. The proposed clinic would accommodate "physician office practice" and tend to people who are diagnosed with cancer and blood-related issues, according to Brian Downs, director of media relations, marketing and public affairs for Lehigh Valley Health Network.Treatment services would be available for oncology patients, he said. The location is "convenient" for the health network because of its accessibility and proximity to the Wellness Center, Downs said."It's a convenient location for access from a major highway and the bus route as well as convenient access to the Health and Wellness Center for other related outpatient services," Downs said in an email to the Standard-Speaker.Construction could begin in spring and the facility could open in the fall, he said.Few other details about the facility were available Wednesday, but a property listing posted on loopnet.com states that 388 Airport Road is a commercial, free-standing building on a roughly half-acre lot.Parking is available for 40 vehicles and the building is slightly over 4,700 square feet, according to the listing. The building is off-market, the listing states. The zoning board will consider the hospital's application at a hearing at 6 p.m. March 18 at the Commons Building.Distributed by Tribune Content Agency LLC
