Jim Thorpe is "out" for the second time and Nesquehoning is "in" again as the proposed site of Carbon County's new prison. The county's board of commissioners announced plans to purchase a 180-acre tract of land, situated east of Route 93 and north of the Nesquehoning Sewage Treatment Plant, to be the jail's new home.
The latest site is the fourth one to be considered by county officials. Other sites included Red Rock Quarry in Nesquehoning, Packerton Yards in Mahoning Township and a parcel of land off Flagstaff Road in Jim Thorpe.
