$261K OK'd for scanning records in Schuylkill
Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday took improvements to the Recorder of Deeds office a $261,794 step further.
Commissioners approved an addendum for the contract between the Recorder of Deeds and ACS Enterprise Solutions. The addendum, for professional services, is to continue the office's re-indexing project. The project involves scanning old documents, pre-1983, into the office's computerized system."They are getting it on their computer system, versus having to deal with paper records," said Commissioner George F. Halcovage Jr.Rather than having to trek down to the archives section of the courthouse, people will be to access the records in the system. The project was begun in 2013 by the late former Recorder of Deeds Matt Dudish.Dudish died on June 26 after a months-long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. His wife, Ann, in September was appointed in his place."Ann knew what Matt's plan was, and conferred with First Deputy Recorder of Deeds Marcia Schultz. So this is moving forward and we have continuity," he said. The cost breaks down to 65 cents per line. There are an estimated 402,760 lines. The money for the project is already available in the Recorder's County Records Improvement Fund.In other matters Wednesday, commissioners approved the purchase, for $7,500, of a pension estimator program. The cost, which includes $750 a year for maintenance, was negotiated down from $10,000. It will be paid by the county retirement fund. That shouldn't be a problem. Controller Christy Joy and Deputy Ron Zimmerman said the fund stood at $126.4 million as of Wednesday morning. That's up from $124.5 million on Jan. 31.Also on Wednesday, commissioners approved purchase of service agreements for the Children and Youth Services agency with the following providers. The contracts run retroactively from July 1 through June 30, 2015:• Concern, Fleetwood, Berks County, for therapist court testimony at a per unit rate of $66.30.• Summit Academy, Pittsburgh, for residential services at a per diem of $128.65; a drug and alcohol program at a per diem of $209; and a drug and alcohol program for girls at a per diem of $265.• Centre County Youth Services, State College, for SIL at a per diem of $68.65; Stepping Stone at a per diem of $121; and Zerby Gap at a per diem of $163.Also on Wednesday, commissioners approved the appointments of three Pottsville people to the assessment appeals board. Their terms are from Feb. 16 through Dec. 31 at $30 per hour. They are Mike Wozniski, Jacqueline Dorian, and Richard Zula.
