Hazleton man charged over Pa. Capitol threats

State Capitol police filed two counts of harassment against Sean M. Donahue, 45, of Hazleton, after they say he sent hundreds of threatening emails to state employees.

Emails were sent to Heather Roth, regional director of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, and Thomas Zipfel, chief counsel, and Lisa Sauder, both of the Department of Labor and Industry, which received hundreds of emails and written correspondence after Donahue was denied a position with the agency, according to court papers.Other employees of these agencies also received threatening emails, which police say served no legitimate purpose to ongoing complaints Donahue filed in both offices. One email, which Roth and Zipfel received Nov. 28 before a civil service hearing, referenced the purchase of assault rifles, ample ammunition and explosive material, court papers state. In another email on Sept. 4, Donahue threatened to file charges against Mark Grab, a Department of Labor and Industry employee, for the rest of his life, court papers state.Due to the content of the emails, the Department of Labor and Industry feared for the safety of employees and requested the Capitol police to provide security at a civil service hearing on Dec. 18.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 11 before District Judge Marsha C. Stewart in Harrisburg.Donahue was charged with harassment and terroristic threats after sending an email to Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis in 2012. Donahue, who spent nine months in prison, was cleared of the charges in 2013, when a Wayne County judge ruled no crime had been committed and dismissed the case.Distributed by Tribune Content Agency LLC
