Three suspects in custody now in cellphone armed robbery

Three suspects in an armed robbery in Nesquehoning Saturday have now been arrested.

Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith reported that he and Officer Timothy Wuttke arrested Izael Flores, 18, of Willow Lane, Nesquehoning, this morning. Flores was one of three armed robbers who pointed guns at two girls, ages 12 and 13, in the borough over the weekend.

This afternoon a juvenile was arrested in the incident.

His accomplice, Elijah Frey, 18, of East Railroad Street, Nesquehoning, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the incident and is currently in Carbon County Correctional Facility. One other suspect has not yet been arrested.

Flores and the juvenile are charged with three counts criminal conspiracy, three counts robbery, one count theft by unlawful taking, one count receiving stolen property and one count simple assault.

Flores was arraigned this morning before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, Lansford, and was placed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility after failing to post $100,000 straight bail.

The robbery happened just before 8 p.m., Saturday. The victims, two girls, ages 12 and 13, told police six people, three of them armed, approached them in the 300 block of East Center Street and demanded the girls give them their phones.

The three armed men, who were wearing bandannas over their faces, pushed their handguns into the females' ribs, took one phone and fled the scene.

Two of the other suspects stayed behind while the girls begged them to get the phone back.

Patrolman Robert Blisard caught up with the two men, Frey and Tyquan Owens, a few blocks away, but both denied involvement in the robbery.

The girls told police they recognized Frey, who also goes by the name "Big E."

In an interview with police on Sunday, Owens said he lied about not being involved.

He said he was walking behind Frey and four other friends when they walked over to the girls and took the phone, valued at $499.

Owens said he didn't know the names of the other four males.

On Monday, Wuttke and Smith made contact with the victims to ask the color of bandannas and to see if Owens was telling the truth. Both victims said that the bandannas were dark colored and one was definitely red. They also said the black male with Frey, who is Owens, was with the group the entire time during the crime.

One of the suspects interviewed identified Flores, Frey and a juvenile male as the main conspirators in the robbery.

The suspect also identified Flores as one of the suspects wearing a bandanna and threatened the victims with a gun and ran from the scene with the other three.
