Call it a blue Monday for residents of Hometown's east side, who woke up to icy walkways, messy streets and no running water.
An apparent water main break on Cumberland Avenue reported 7:30 a.m. is impacting homes and businesses east of the Route 309.Water has been shut off at Village Square Mall as well, where some shop owners reported dirty, discolored water or no water at all. The businesses were expected to be open for sales during the day despite the setback.Crews from the Tamaqua Area Water Authority and Rush Township were at the scene early trying to locate the source of the problem. In the meantime, computer generated calls made by the water authority were alerting water customers whose phone numbers are listed in the system's records.Crews were still trying to pinpoint the problem area at press time and it was unclear how long water would be unavailable at Hometown's east side.
