The Jim Thorpe Area School District continues to work toward renovations and expansion of the L.B. Morris Elementary School. The Jim Thorpe Zoning Hearing Board granted approval for a variance from the required amount of parking spaces, as well as a special exception during its regular December meeting.
The lot on which L.B. Morris sits is zoned as a residential area. Borough zoning officer Gene Mulligan noted the special exception was needed to build a school in a residential area, and he could find no record of such an exception ever being granted for the school.
