Two face charges for drugs after they were found squatting in Coaldale

Coaldale police will file charges against two residents in connection with a trespassing incident on Monday.

Officers were contacted by the landlord at 127 E. Phillips St., at 11:03 a.m., concerning possible squatters in a third-floor apartment. The apartment is rented to Ricky Nelson, who is currently in the Schuylkill County prison.Officers and the landlord went to the apartment, where they found two people sleeping in one bedroom and a third sleeping in a second bedroom. The trio was identified as Russell Nelson (the leasee's brother); Monica Russop, 48, of 129 E. Phillips St., Coaldale; and Dominick Chickilly, 23, of Arrow Road, Tamaqua.Russell said he was securing the apartment for his brother and allowed Russop and Chickilly to stay there as they had nowhere else to go.Nelson's mother, who has power of attorney for her incarcerated son, was contacted and told police no one had permission to be in the apartment. Russop and Chickilly left the apartment after Mrs. Nelson gave officers permission to search the place.During the search, they found a clear glass pipe, a small orange container with marijuana residue and an industrial torch lighter below the bed used by Chickilly. Next to where Russop had been sleeping, they found a bent spoon with a partially melted white crystal powder.Russell Nelson said the items belonged to his house guests.It was later learned that Chickilly left the area in a vehicle reported as stolen by West Penn Township Police.Russop and Chickilly face charges of possession of drug paraphernalia filed by Coaldale Police.
