Man, officer are injured in scuffle

A New Ringgold man and a Tamaqua police officer were injured in a scuffle Sunday morning that started on West Cottage Avenue and ended at the Five Points intersection.

The officer was on patrol when he saw Christopher Lee Hill, 27, standing in a driveway to the rear of 14 W. Broad St.Knowing there was an active warrant for Hill's arrest the officer stopped and attempted to take him into custody. Hill fled up a fire escape, ran through the building, out the front door and continued up the iron steps at the rear of the Wells Fargo Bank.Other officers joined in searching for Hill in the shrubbery at the top of the steps. When they found him, Hill again began running. The officer gave chase and was able to grab him. Hill tripped, causing both men to fall and roll down an embankment. At the bottom Hill broke free and again tried to flee. He was caught again and began fighting the officer. Once he was taken into custody Hill complained his ribs were sore and was transported to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale for evaluation. He was then transported to the Schuylkill County prison on the warrant. He will also be charged with resisting arrest. The officer suffered a knee injury and was also evaluated at the hospital.
