Carbon County Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard is recovering well after surgery last week, his colleagues said.

The commissioners, on Thursday, reported that Gerhard, who was not present at this week's commissioners' meeting, was recovering after taking ill before Thanksgiving. Gerhard required bypass surgery and is currently at home with his family in Packer Township.

Commissioner Wayne Nothstein, who spoke with Gerhard Thursday morning, reported that Gerhard said he is doing well with his recovery and exercises to regain strength and hopes to be back in the office in a few weeks.

Nothstein added that until Gerhard is strong enough to come back into the office, he hopes to join in the commissioners' meetings on Thursday via conference call.
