Second winter storm may be on the way

Winter still may be 20 days away, but Tuesday may be our second winter storm of the season.

According to various weather services a wintry mix may cause slippery travel conditions across the Northeast as a shallow blast of cold air pushes south.AccuWeather expert senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski reports that snow and ice is in the forecast for Tuesday into Wednesday just one day after the area sees temperatures near 60.As the wet weather pushes north, a mix of warm air and cold air will cause some snow, sleet, freezing rain or just plain rain to fall Tuesday afternoon. The type of precipitation for the region will be dependent on the temperature, which is supposed to hover around freezing.According to the National Weather Service's hazardous weather outlook, "there is a potential for a light accumulation of snow and sleet on Tuesday, followed by the possibility of freezing rain on Tuesday night."The higher elevations will likely be affected the most.Wednesday offers a wet start to the morning commute, but temperatures will rise into the high 40s during the day with cloudy skies during the afternoon. The next chance of winter weather occurs at the end of the week. The National Weather Service forecasts a 30 percent chance of rain and snow Friday, with temperatures near 40.A 40 percent chance of rain is also forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.
