A Monroe County woman was killed on Monday when the vehicle she was a passenger in left a county road and crashed into a tree.
State police at Fern Ridge identified the victim as Casey Ann Hoffman, 22, of Saylorsburg.Troopers said the crash occurred at 6:19 p.m. along Weir Lake Road at Frantz Road in Chestnuthill Township. Brian Petix, 31, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2002 Buick Century northbound and was approaching the intersection with Frantz Road when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the road.The Buick went onto the berm and struck a tree with the passenger side. The car then continued into the southbound lane, where it came to rest facing west.Hoffman was flown by Pennstar helicopter to St. Luke's University Hospital-Bethlehem Campus, where she was pronounced dead.Petix was taken to Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg for treatment of unknown injuries. West End fire and ambulance personnel responded to the scene.The crash is still under investigation.
