At least one person is dead as the result of a violent head-on crash Sunday afternoon along River View Drive (Route 145) in Lehigh Township, Northampton County.

The crash occurred just after 1:30 p.m. about a mile north of the Treichlers bridge.

Two Penn Star helicopters were called to the scene with on leaving with a patient and the other being placed back into service.

The roadway was closed for several hours as the victims were extricated from the wreckage and Lehigh Township police investigated the crash.
