A Berks County woman was killed in a crash in Schuylkill County on Thursday when the vehicle she was a passenger in was hit on the passengers side by a truck.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at 2:44 p.m. along Route 61, near Liberty Street, in West Brunswick Township.Troopers said Fred A. Fasnacht, 73, of Strausstown, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala southbound in the middle turn lane to turn left into the parking lot of a local business. Fasnacht turned into the path of a 2006 Ford F250 truck driven by Jeffrey J. Blanchek, 42, of Ringtown, who was northbound.The front bumper of the Ford struck the Impala on the drivers side front and rear doors. After impact the Impala spun clockwise and came to rest along the northbound shoulder facing north. The Ford spun clockwise after impact and came to rest also on the northbound shoulder facing southeast.A passenger in the Impala, Jean L. Fasnacht, 70, of Strausstown, was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner's office.Fred Fasnacht was taken by ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, with what troopers called were moderate injuries. Blanchek was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of minor injuries.Damages were termed major to the Impala and moderate to the Ford.Troopers said charges are pending against Fasnacht.
