Lehighton woman captured on warrant

A Lehighton woman who had active warrants out for her arrest has been apprehended.

On Oct. 22, various police from Carbon County, along with state police personnel, assisted Palmerton Police in the search for two people who had active warrants out for their arrest from the county probation department.On that day, Palmerton Police spotted James Smiley, 42, of Palmerton, and Michelle Kobal, 44, of Lehighton, both of whom proceeded to take off by foot into a wooded area behind 769 Edgemont Ave., according to borough patrolman Shawn Leadbetter.Smiley was apprehended and arrested, but Kobal, who had an active probation violation and had an aggressive pit bull with her, proceeded further down into the wooded area in the vicinity of the Village at Palmerton, Leadbetter said.On Nov. 4, Kobal was located in Bowmanstown by Palmerton Police and East Penn Township Police.From there, she was taken to the Palmerton Police Department, where she was then picked up by the county Sheriff's Department and transported to the county prison, where she remains lodged.
