Before the present Jacob's United Church of Christ was built, the Reformed and Lutheran people of Weissport had been holding services under the trees along the Lehigh River.
The following is a timeline of the church's 175 years:August 1838: Services were transferred from Gnaden Huetten to Weissport.December 1839: Christmas day services were held in the completed church, which was on a lot presented by Jacob Weiss.1893: The church was remodeled.1898: The Sunday School was remodeled.1908: The parsonage was built.Between 1931 and 1939: A new kitchen was built, the tower was lowered and rebuilt, the outside of the church was stuccoed, a junior choir was organized and a girls' guild was formed.1945: The name of the church was changed to Jacob's Evangelical and Reformed Church1955: Jacob's Evangelical and Reformed Church merged with Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church in Walnutport.1957: The Evangelical and Reformed churches and the Congregational Christian churches merged to become the United Church of Christ.1965: A contract was awarded for renovations and construction of Fellowship Hall for $64,519.61.1973: The merger with Christ UCC in Walnutport was discontinued.1977: A new steeple was erected.1988: New cushioned pews were purchased.2006: The roof of Fellowship Hall was damaged in a wind storm. Insurance covered the $4,450 repairs.2011: After a cold winter and frozen pipes, the congregation voted to switch from oil to a gas furnace for $31,500. A home in Jim Thorpe, donated by Harold Ruff, was used as a parsonage until 2013. The home was sold and money was set aside for future church improvements.
