A 4-month-old New Ringgold boy is in the hospital and his caregiver is in jail.
Travis Garris, 25, of 121 1/2 of Bolichs Road, Andreas, was watching the infant in the child's home on Monday, while the boy's mother was at work. When the woman returned home, she immediately saw severe bruising on the left side of the baby's head and took the child to a hospital in Pottsville. After providing initial treatment, doctors transferred the baby to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he is being treated for a fractured skull, bleeding in the brain and facial bruises.According to the police report, Garris said the child fell while in his care, but doctors determined the injuries were consistent with those being caused by slapping, not falling.Garris was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of simple assault, child endangerment and reckless endangerment. On Wednesday, he was arraigned before District Judge James Ferrier in Orwigsburg, who set bail at $15,000 straight. Unable to post bail, Garris was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville.
