Students inducted into honor society
Their excellence in the classroom has translated to a spot on one of the nation's premier student organizations.
Eighteen Palmerton Area Junior High School students took part in the National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony held Tuesday in the junior high/high school auditorium.The program began with the prelude and processional given by junior high school music instructor Kenneth Mettam. That was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.Junior high school Principal Richard DeSocio then gave the welcome.A candle lighting ceremony was then presented by students Nathaniel Galgoci, who spoke on Scholarship; Devyn Hauser, Service; Lucas Christman, Leadership; Skyler Graver, Character; and Mia Fantasia, Citizenship.Up next was the actual induction ceremony, which was conducted by Brad Landis, NJHS adviser. In all, 18 students were initiated. The oath was given by Matthew Binder, president of the NJHS.Jenna Haydt, president of Palmerton Area High School's National Honor Society, and district Superintendent Scot Engler gave the address to new members. Landis then offered closing remarks.A rendition of the alma mater was led by NJHS members Shannon Higgins and Reshan Selvavelautham. The program ended with the recessional.Students who were inducted into the 2013-14 NJHS are Nathan Andress, Matthew Binder, Sayler Burke, Lucas Christman, Mia Fantasia, Chase Faulstick, Madison Finley, Nathaniel Galgoci, Skyler Graver, Devyn Hauser, Shannon Higgins, Ezekiel Himmelwright, Ashley Mosier, Benjamin Netznik, Katelyn Rehatchek, Reshan Selvavelautham, Benjamin Serfass and Jonathan Shimmel.Officers include Binder, president; Serfass, vice president; Burke, treasurer; and Netznik, secretary.
