Carbon County, which owns the Panther Valley Railroad, proposes to develop a rail/highway bulk transfer facility at Jim Thorpe, it was learned today during the meeting of the Carbon County Commissioners.
Bruce Conrad, director of the county's Office on Planning and Development, and William Powers, the rail line's short line operator, explained it would serve users of bulk commodities who do not have rail sidings in the area from Scranton to Philadelphia and from Phillipsburg, New Jersey, to Harrisburg.
