Wounded trooper is outstanding
Trooper Alex Douglass, who served at the Frackville state police barracks and who was wounded Friday in a shooting in Pike County, is a stickler for details.
He could always be counted upon to show up at hearings armed with sharp recall and meticulous documentation, said Schuylkill County lawyer Tom Campion.Cpl. Daniel Conville, who worked with Douglass at Frackville, recalls him as a "very good trooper. He did his duties well, his performance was outstanding."Douglass, 31, and a trooper for nine years, is recovering from gunshot wounds he suffered Friday night when a hidden gunman opened fire on him and Trooper Bryon Dickson outside the Blooming Grove barracks.Dickson, 38, a state trooper for seven years who worked on traffic details in Carbon and Monroe counties, died at the scene.Conville worked with Douglass at the Frackville barracks around 2006."We worked together for a couple of years. He was assigned patrol here. We cover northern and eastern Schuylkill County. He's a good guy. There were never any complaints on him," Conville said.Campion, who was first assistant district attorney at the time, said he met Douglass while handling summary appeal cases. "When I first started in May 2006, I handled all the summary appeal hearings. He was always available to us. We had his cellphone number in the office in case we had to talk prior to a hearing. He was always at every hearing, and prepared ahead of time. He always showed up with the proper documentation," Campion said.He said Douglass was always a "good witness. He always knew the facts of the case. State troopers issue a lot of tickets, but he always remembered the facts very clearly. He's a nice young man and I hope he pulls out of this. This is a horrible thing that happened."
