Thorpe Gold Star mother to appear on Hazleton TV show
A Gold Star mother from Jim Thorpe will appear in Episode 4 of Warrior Summit Outdoors hosted by three-tour combat veteran SSG Erik Olson, Retired is set to premiere at 9 p.m. Wednesday on WYLNTV35 from Hazleton.
SSG Olson and three other veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan tackle a whitewater kayaking challenge on the Lehigh River, under the instruction of Jerry McAward and his team at Northeast PA Kayak School in Jim Thorpe.
Ann Baddick Adams, who lost her son AJ in Iraq, is featured the episode that educates the public that families often have their own wounds from war in need of healing.
Before war, Sgt Baddick was a regular at Northeast PA Kayak School, providing instruction and enjoying the challenge of the rapids from the time he was a young child. Sgt Baddick lost his life heroically in 2003 saving others in his convoy in Iraq-their vehicle flipped into a canal, trapping several under water. Without thought of self and given his experience in water, Sgt Baddick went in to rescue his brothers in arms. While he pulled a number to safety, the vehicle shifted, trapping and killing Baddick. He was 26 years old.
Mrs. Baddick had not visited Northeast PA Kayak School since her son's death, despite the fact that she lives right down the road from it. It was only when she learned from Jerry McAward that several combat veterans from Iraq/Afghanistan would be there taking kayaking lessons, she decided to make an appearance. The veterans were honored that Mrs. Baddick chose to share her son's story and do so on camera to honor his memory. In this episode, Baddick and the combat veterans have a wonderful talk and many hugs which helped in the healing process for all.
SSG Olson and his wife, Tiffany Cloud Olson, who co-executive produce the show, are honored to dedicate this upcoming new episode of Warrior Summit Outdoors to the memory of Sgt AJ Baddick.
