Mahoning man found, arrested for beating nephew

Mahoning Police have arrested a man on assault charges stemming from an assault of a 5-year-old boy Thursday.

The child's uncle, Daniel Sterling Stahler Jr. of Mahoning Township, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment.

The child told police he hugged Stahler's dog too hard. He said Stahler then threw him, hit him with his hands, and a door.

Stahler fled the residence when the child's mother said she was calling police. Information provided to police showed the child suffered a fracture to the ocular cavity.

A warrant was issued for Stahler's arrest and he was taken into custody by State Police Lehighton during a vehicle stop near the West End Fairgrounds.

Stahler had been lodged in the Carbon County Prison, pending arraignment.
