The combination of excellent weather, a great country singer, and the popular demolition derby attracted a large crowd for the opening day of the West End Fair in Gilbert.
Fair officials said the weather probably was the most deciding factor for attendance. From music to madness, motor madness, that is, the demolition derby provided the usual excitement of crunch and crash, smoke and fire.Tim George of Kresgeville was the feature winner, while Dave Frantz of Kunkletown finished runner-up.
