Diakon Community Services will offer a free "Healthy Steps for Older Adults" Program for Tamaqua area residents. The two-part program is being offered to residents age 50 and older and will be held Sept. 25 and Oct. 1 at the Majestic House Apartment Complex, 201 E. Broad St.Participants should plan to attend both sessions, as they offer different helpful advice on ways to raise participants' knowledge of falls, introduce steps to reduce falls, and improve health and well-being. Provided by PrimeTime Health, the workshops' topics will be "You Can Prevent Falls" and "Staying Active."Pre-registration is required and must be made by Sept. 12 by calling, toll-free, 1-800-621-6325 or (570) 624-3017. PrimeTime Health is part of Diakon Community Services and provided under contract with the Schuylkill County Office of Senior Services.YMCA newsThe newly expanded Tamaqua YMCA will host an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 5. The Y has expanded its floor space and added cardio equipment with state of the art technology, as well as adaptive equipment for rehabilitation and therapy.For those unable to attend on Sept. 5, the open house will continue through Sept. 12.In other YMCA news, registrations are now being accepted for Jack and Jill Pre-School and fall swim lessons.The first Tamaqua YMCA and DnA Bike Rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 5. The event will include bike registrations, check ups and safety tips.St. John LutheranThe Rev. John Hazel will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.Calvary MethodistAll events connected with Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church, Lewistown Valley, are being held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, through Labor Day weekend.Today, the Lumber River Quartet will present a concert at 7 p.m.The 101st Annual Camp Meetings will be held from Aug. 22 through Sept. 1. With the exception of Sundays and Aug. 27, the camp meetings will be held at 7 p.m. and will feature music and messages by Pat, Donna and Jonathan Burkhalter.The Burkhalter Family will also provide special music and messages during the 10:25 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday camp meetings.Jan and Rod Dormer of One Mission Society will be the featured presenters at the 7 p.m. service on Aug. 27.St. John UCCThe Rev.
