Six taken to hospital after Hometown crash

A head-on collision 6:15 p.m. Monday in Hometown sent six to the hospital, including one who was airlifted.

Two or three of the vehicles' occupants were children.The crash took place at the intersection of Claremont Avenue, Route 309, and Tide Road, near the entrance to HT Commons Shopping Center and Walmart Supercenter.The extent of injuries was not immediately available, however, Lehigh Valley Hospital Network's MedEvac airlift service was dispatched to transport one adult.According to investigating officer Jeffrey Tanner of Rush Township police, "All of them are going to be taken to be checked out."Firefighters and fire police set up a landing zone at HT Commons Shopping Center.Both vehicles were heavily damaged and traffic signals at the busy intersection were knocked down.Responding were Tamaqua Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Ryan Township Emergency and Rescue, McAdoo Ambulance, Hometown Fire Company and Hometown Fire Police.This story will be updated as information becomes available.
