Man steals Reading ambulance, leads police on 10-mile chase

READING, Pa. (AP) — Police say a Pennsylvania man stole an ambulance and led them on a 10-mile chase before he was arrested.

Boyertown police say 47-year-old Kevin C. Fountain stole a Reading Fire Department ambulance Saturday at about 6 a.m. as an emergency crew was tending to a patient inside a hospital. After the chase Fountain ended up in Exeter Township. That's about 40 miles northwest of Philadelphia.

The Reading Eagle (http://bit.ly/XR6HaQ ) reports that Fountain is facing charges of receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, false identification to law enforcement and other traffic offenses.

Fountain is being held in the Berks County jail, unable to post $25,000 bond. No attorney was listed on court papers.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 13.
