Night out celebration in Tamaqua

Tonight's the night to get out of the house, off of the porch and take part in a national effort to prevent crime.

Tamaqua's Second National Night Out celebration is being held from 6 to 9 p.m., with most activities taking place in the 100 block of Pine Street and the surrounding area.A Kidz Karnival, sponsored by the Tamaqua Salvation Army, is being held at the Railroad Street Parking lot.Tamaqua's celebration grew out of the Tamaqua Safety Initiative Project and is coordinated by Leona Rega, who is also director of the Tamaqua Community Arts Center."The event is held to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts," says Rega.Tamaqua Fire Police will provide help with pedestrians traveling from the carnival to the 100 block of Pine Street, where the bulk of activities will take place. Stations will also be set up on Mauch Chunk Street.Three hours of muscal entertainment will be provided by DJ Original Sounds.
