In recognition of its high military standards, outstanding professional skill and enthusiasm, a Jim Thorpe Navy member was chosen "Sailor of the Month" for June. Robert J. Dougherty, dental technician second class, son of Mrs. Clyde V. Hill of West Broadway, received the honor while assigned to the dental examining room at the St. Albans Hospital, Long Island, New York. He graduated from Mauch Chunk Catholic High Schol in 1957.
