A Coaldale man will be charged with drug-related offenses after a bizarre incident that took place along Route 309 in Hometown during a busy Farmers Market Wednesday.

According to Rush Township police, Michael Leiby, 28, Coaldale, was a passenger in a car traveling along Route 309 about 2:30 p.m. when, according to those at the scene, a bag of drugs was tossed from the vehicle.The bag apparently landed beneath a car parked at Hometown Village Square, 200 Claremont Ave.Police questioned the suspect and at least two other adults in the vehicle.Police units from Tamaqua and Ryan Township also responded to the call an assisted in the investigation.According to Rush Township Police Sgt. Duane Frederick, Leiby will face charges of possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia, specifically, a needle.Leiby was taken to the township police station, Mahanoy Avenue, and turned over to the custody of Carbon County Sheriff Robert Blisard. According to police, Leiby was expected to be lodged in Carbon County Prison on an existing warrant.We'll update this story as details become available.
