If a co-generation plant in Nesquehoning is allowed to burn tires, it could impact recess for children at Nesquehoning Elementary School.

The firm plans a four-month test burn and if that proves sufficient to meet state and federal regulations, might burn tire waste regularly.On the recommendation of board member Irene Genther, a letter will be sent to Panther Creek Power Operating requesting the firm notifies the shcool district when burning occurs."We want to know when they're burning so we can keep the kids inside," said Genther.District Business Manager had the board place an addendum on the motion that the DEP monitor the test burn.The co-gen plant is located along Route 54 near the village of Hauto.The elementary school is located in Nesquehoning borough an estimated three miles from there.
